In the Amanda’s case, Amanda was accused by the University
for plagiarism, and then she posted the her case on public and tell people the injustice
she felt from the university. Personally, I felt that both the university and
Amanda did something wrong.
For the university, they just use the software ‘Turnitin’,
to grade students’ homework, but machine sometimes will make many errors. For
example the software claims that Amanda’s paper plagiarize the Eskimo website,
even though that Amanda’s paper is about the same-sex marriage in Texas which
seems have no direct relation to the Eskimo. So the school should not rely too
much on the technology. Besides, the university grades the score and the
percentage of the plagiarism too arbitrarily. What’s more, the university, according to the
article, didn’t give Amanda the opportunity to state her disagreement about the
Plagiarism.
However, Amanda herself also made some errors. In the
article, there was a person pointing out that she didn’t cite content correctly
with the rrul link; instead she just put the website. What’s more, when she responded
to other people’s comment, there is no need to put that thumbnail followed her
answers. The thumbnail looks like being taken on the party, and may make people
feel that Amada is a party animal and had tense relation with books, and didn’t
study.
